    Quick answer

    Crop, do not squash

    // Answer

    There are two ways to make a photo fit a shape. Cropping cuts pieces off and everything left looks normal. Stretching keeps the whole picture and makes every face in it wrong. This tool only crops, which is why there is no option to distort.

    The shapes

    What each one is for

    ShapeWhere it is used
    1:1 squareProfile pictures, album art, product grids
    4:5 portraitInstagram feed (Instagram also accepts 3:4, a little taller)
    9:16 tallStories, Reels, TikTok, phone wallpaper
    16:9 wideVideo thumbnails, slides, banners
    3:2Many dedicated cameras, and 6×4 prints
    4:3A standard phone-camera shape, tablets, some projectors

    Need it smaller as well? Set a max width in the same panel, or send it to the compressor for an exact file size.

    Frequently asked questions

    The centre. Pick a shape and the tool trims equally from both sides, or from the top and bottom, whichever is needed. That is the right answer for most photos, where the subject sits near the middle.
    The crop is taken at full resolution before anything is resized, so the crop itself loses nothing. Saving as JPG or WebP re-compresses the picture; choose PNG, or a high quality setting, to keep it as close to the original as possible.
    Square for a profile picture. 4:5 for an Instagram post (Instagram now accepts up to 3:4, a little taller). 9:16 for a story, a Reel or TikTok. 16:9 for a video thumbnail or a slide. 3:2 matches many dedicated cameras and 6×4 prints.
    Yes. Drop them all in and pick the shape once. Every image is cropped from its own centre, so a set of photos comes out consistent.
    No. Cropping happens on your own machine, in this tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page keeps working with your Wi-Fi switched off.
